DEVIN GUTIERREZ

Devin Gutierrez
Music has always been Devin’s passion and lifeline. Born in Abilene and raised in Sweetwater, Texas, Devin’s first experience with the piano was at the age of 3 playing Jingle Bells on a Casio WTK483. At the time, his family thought he had pushed the demo song button on the keyboard, before they realized he was playing by ear.
After a few years of searching for a teacher who would instruct a blind student, he started piano lessons with Noreen Carson, a local classical pianist.
Unfortunately, in 2012, Devin stopped making music for 4 years because of some discouraging comments uttered by a staff at his home school.
All that began to change when Devin came to the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in 2014. The school and fine arts activities confirmed to him that music was his true calling. While at the school, he was the lead in musical productions—as well the sound designer and music director, part of the choir, a member of the guitar ensemble, and a member (and now assistant director) of the school's jazz band, The New Motown.
Devin is also an accomplished mixer and producer. He is well-versed in recording hardware and software and has worked with a variety of clients: The Texas School for the Blind theatre department, the legendary Blue Mist band, and his own sponsored project with the Music Moves Mountains Foundation.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Devin is a passionate activist for disability rights. He has worked as a website accessibility tester for county voting websites in the State of Texas and assisted the Autism Society of Texas to create a video to train employers on best accommodating for the needs of autistic individuals in the work place.
Devin lives and works in Austin, Texas.
